Press your petal to the paper - join us online as we demonstrate how to create and use an herbarium press. Learn how to make your own plant press from things around your home as you discover the best ways to turn fresh-cut plants into long-lasting treasures. During this program, you’ll also learn about the fascinating history of pressed plants and how scientists are using them today to solve botanical mysteries.

If you want to work along with the instructors during the demo, please prepare the following:
Freshly collected plants or plant parts to press and dry

Materials needed for a plant press:
Stiff material for the frame (plywood, thick cardboard, wire fencing, etc.) – generally 12x18” or smaller, but can be any size

Cardboard or foam pieces
Newspaper Strap material (rope, bungee cords, ratcheting straps, etc.)

Materials needed if not using a plant press:
Paper to go around the plant (any type that won’t bleed color/ink)
Something flat and heavy to weigh down plants (books, bricks, etc.)
